SIM is a project methodology and approach that is derived from the Agile project methodology and Lean thinking. Agile projects apply “Lean” concepts in the information technology environment with a focus on the following key concepts:
- Frequent inspection and adaptation
- A leadership philosophy that encourages teamwork, self-organization, and accountability
- A set of engineering best practices that allow for rapid delivery of high-quality projects
- A business approach that aligns development with customer needs and company goals
SIM is faster and more flexible than conventional implementation methods. The big difference, however, comes in the configuration and go-live stages. Instead of trying to present a full, finished product at the end of the project, the SIM methodology focuses on what’s most important right now.
SynergERP’s approach is to start with the most complex or most business critical processes first and ensure that those are ‘Go-Live Ready’. These are typically processes that form part of the project objectives, where the customer will derive the most value. These are often processes that drive the compelling reason for change.
The teams break work into small increments, made up of categorical tasks and sub-tasks, that minimize the amount of up-front planning and design. The team works on all functions (planning, development, deployment, testing and so on) during these increments. At the end, they have an operational piece of the larger system ready to go.
Through this approach, the project team will stack all the separate increments to eventually create the whole system. In so doing, the customer has more flexibility to change and refine their requirements as they learn more about what their new system can do.
